History of NRC Bochum System Research

NRC Bochum was founded in 1996 and has since then successfully completed numerous projects with research and industry partners.

  • The receiver for the dominant mobile TV technology DVB-H has been developed here.
  • The first 3G call has been made possible using our work to emulate the software running in the core cellular network element, the radio network controller.
  • NRC Bochum has co-developed and implemented the TTCN-3 programming language that has been adopted by ETSI as a standard.
Recent conformance specifications released by ETSI are written in this language.
  • The software for the miniature harddisk in the Nokia N91 has been developed by NRC Bochum.
  • Basic research and first prototypes for the next generation celular system beyond 3G, LTE (long-term evolution), have been successfully completed at NRC Bochum.
