NRC Pervasive Communications

Location: Lausanne

NRC Lausanne carries out cross-disciplinary research focusing on helping people benefit from a world where they are connected to each other, to the Internet and to the contextual information coming from multiple sources in the surrounding world. This allows people to collect information, filter it based on their preferences and share with their friends or other communities – while keeping control of their privacy.

Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, NRC Lausanne's operations are based on the principles of an open collaboration model established with the two the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology: EPFL and ETH Zürich.

Research focus

The initial joint research agenda will focus on pervasive sensing and communications:

  • Link contextual, physical and social networks together via dynamic model
  • Create innovative services and applications based on the underlying socio-geographical graphs
  • Guarantee privacy on all communication layers

Call for Proposals

The Call for Proposals for research groups has been finalized. Ten proposals are now being pushed forward which corresponds to more than 50% acceptance rate for the second round of the call. Further discussions with our different partners are ongoing at the moment and we will update our Collaboration page as soon as possible.

Similar call focusing on mobile applications and service ideas will be targeted to the students. The best ideas will be rewarded and there will be opportunities to implement the selected ideas within the Nokia-EPFL Application Development Lab. More information will be available soon here.

Events

NRC Lausanne will contribute to the EPFL event for selected high school students on January 29th 2009: Be a V.I.P. 4 a day.
