Nokia Research Center's Cognitive Radio team has launched a new introductory video and summary page explaining the benefits of this relatively new field. The lighthearted video, featuring animated characters Basil and Pepper, examines the problems of an increasingly crowded and complex wireless spectrum, and solutions that intelligent radios will provide in the future.
Cognitive Radio is a catch-all term for a variety of new technologies which enable wireless devices to more efficiently operate. By detecting and working with other devices nearby, cognitive radios can negotiate for bandwidth, prioritize important types of information, adjust frequencies for better connectivity, adjust power for better battery life and communicate with peers. Most excitingly, these new types of devices offer the potential for a whole array of new products and services which could improve the lives of millions of mobile users.
After you check out the video, be sure to click over to the main Cognitive Radio page where you can get more details on this exciting technology, including recent published papers, and a link to our careers site as well.
