To and from the Tampere-Pirkkala airport

The Tampere-Pirkkala airport is located in Pirkkala, approximately 18 kms from the NRC premises in Hervanta and 11 kms from the center of Tampere. Travel time is less than 30 minutes.

Taxis can be found in front of the airport building at arrival and all major credit cards are accepted.

To and from Helsinki

Train is the most convenient way to travel between Tampere and Helsinki. Trains leave more or less every hour and the trip takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Train tickets can be purchased at the railway stations (recommended) and in trains. Please show your ticket when you see a conductor. Most common credit cards are accepted and a seat ticket is mandatory. [ Timetables ]

The trip by bus takes about 2 hours and buses leave both from Helsinki-Vantaa airport and the Helsinki bus station in Kamppi. If you miss your connecting flight from Helsinki-Vantaa to Tampere, Finnair's flight coupon is valid for the bus. [ Timetables ]

Traveling by car is easy. The distance is around 176 kilometers. The speed limit is mostly 120 km/h (100 km/h during winter) and thus the drive takes about 2 hours. There are several gas stations with restaurants on the route. [ Route description | Information on driving in Finland ]

Local transportation in Tampere

Bus - From Keskustori central square, the buses to Hermia are 13 and 20. Single tickets worth 2,00 Euros can be purchased at buses (cash only), and the ticket is valid for one hour on any route within the city of Tampere. [ Journey Planner ]
Taxi - Taxi stops can be found in front of railway and bus stations or at Keskustori. You may also ask the reception area of Nokia Research Center or your hotel to call you a taxi (the taxi fare is the same). Taxis accept credit cards for payment. [ Taxis in Tampere]
