The Visual Interaction Systems team aims to make a paradigm shift to the next generation user interface (UI). Visual interaction solutions and systems is an active area of research that focuses on how humans can better work with devices through one or more collaborative cameras. For this to happen, there must be enabling visual technologies, and related visual user interface.
State-of-the-art visual interaction is implemented through touching UI by pen and non-touching UI by camera separately, the team's target is to make them merged for creating uniform visual interaction platform. Till now, the team achieved a number of breakthroughs including shoot-to-translate, continuous Chinese handwriting recognition and face detection and recognition, among others. All the achieved breakthroughs have attracted global attention, and related productization is being deployed through cross-discipline cooperation inside Nokia.
