Andre Kaufmann

Background

Since beginning of the year 2007 I have been working as the Research Leader of the Automotive Systems Team in the System Research Center in Bochum, Germany. I joined Nokia in 1998 as a Design Engineer. Some years later I was promoted to Senior Research Engineer. Before my career at Nokia I received my degree in electrical engineering from the Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH), Aachen, Germany, graduated with a thesis on Reed-Solomon codecs.

Associated with my studies I spent some time at the Philips Speech Processing Laboratory and at the Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering.

Work

The activities of my team are twofold. On the one hand we deal with communication related research questions in the automotive domain - with a profound background in non-cellular technologies and now with a clear focus on cellular systems like EUTRAN and UTRAN. On the other hand we develop applications on top of the communication systems, including mobile clients and web-based servers. Our target is to provide a complete end-to-end solution to the customers and fulfill our mission as a System Research Center. Examples of applications accrue from both the car-to-infrastructure domain (e.g. infotainment and automatic map generation applications) and the car-to-car domain (e.g. traffic and routing applications) and base upon the intelligence in the existing or to-built communities (principles of swarm & mass intelligence).

Areas of Interest

Signal processing (of all kinds), digital radio baseband architectures (e.g. flexible solutions), mobile (web-)services in the automotive domain.
