Background
I have worked in wireless system research in Nokia since late 1992, first with Nokia Telecommunications, and since 1994 with Nokia Research Center in Helsinki, Finland and in Irving, TX. My early work was related to multiuser receivers in CDMA systems and residential wireless systems. Since 1998 my interests have focused on signal processing and optimization aspects of multi-antenna transceivers and systems, in particular for 3G wireless systems. This work has resulted in several relevant patents related to cdma2000, 3GPP technologies (wcdma and LTE), IEEE 802.11n, etc.
During 2006-2009 I was the Nokia representative in an EU STREP project called MASCOT (see http://www.ist-mascot.org), related to multiuser MIMO and relay networks. I used to be a mathematician, having graduated with MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Helsinki in 1992. Later, I obtained a DSc degree (with honors) in Computer Science and Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology. I am a Senior Member of IEEE.
Research Projects
MASCOT, a Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP) of EU (Project No. IST-26905) ended in February 2009. See project deliverables. My work was mostly related to deliverables D321 and D322.
Conferences
I have been TPC member in several conferences, including IEEE ICC, ITG WSA, IEEE PIMRC, IEEE VTC, European Wireless, and a panelist in IEEE ITW 2009.
