BackgroundI'm a bit of a 'jack of all trades' software developer, taking roles such as client, server, web UI or database developer as needed, or just doing everything if the system to be developed is small enough. I'm happiest when my work is most tangible and closest to the user, and hence I've done a lot of application and user interface development. The great thing about being at Nokia Research Center is that I get to play with new technologies as they are coming to the phones and explore how they can be used to help our users. Professional Activities | I represented Nokia on the Java™ Language & XML User Interface Markup Integration (JSR 290) expert group.
Research Projects | I'm currently working on an 'augmented reality' research project. I spent the previous two years developing Nokia Friend View, where I worked on the server, web UI and mobile client. In the past, my work focused for many years on mobile Java, being involved in standardization activites and developing new tutorials and whitepapers for Forum Nokia. One of my tutorial examples was the 'Sheepdog' game (and I can proudly reveal that I am the voice of the sheep!). My earliest work at Nokia Research Center was on Telecommunications Network Management Systems, following on from my work at Nokia Telecommunications.
