Nokia Research Center

In Brief

I was recruited to Nokia the second time at spring 2005, this time to Nokia Research Center (the first time was back in 2002 and at Nokia Mobile Phones in Keilaniemi). The summer job turned into part time at autumn, then to full time from the beginning of 2006 and to a permanent contract at the turn 2006-2007.

Most of my time is spent on concept and interaction design. I photoshop a lot, work with media and create interfaces to various internal demos, implement those when needed to the level that is needed. About half of the job deals with the experimental device interfaces whereas the remaining half concentrates on web interfaces. The concepts are tested and because of that I've learn to appreciate the harsh realm of usability and user research.

Starting from 2007 I was working as a designer for Nokia Image Exchange. This started in Internet Consumer services team located in Ruoholahti, Helsinki. From January 2009 team is being called Solution Integration Team and now works under Advanced Systems Engineering. During these years I took small part in designing Nokia Friend View as well.

Interests

As a student from an art school, visual elements are a strong part of what I do and am interested about. It is not enough that things work well, they must also look good and even more importantly, feel good. That is easier said and done, luckily there is the rest of my life still to learn.

My current short term plans deal with finishing my short animation project and to get my masters of art papers out. Aside of that, I've been part of a few game, TV and film productions, even if on relatively small scale. Perhaps continue to work with some, but only time will tell.

In my work, such background easily leads to work on interface and interaction design.
