Background

I received my B.Sc. and MS.C from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) respectively in 1982 and 1987, and my Ph.D. in 1994 from the Department of Electronics Engineering in Helsinki University of Technology.

Professional Activities

I am also guest professor in Computer Science in BUPT from 2002, ICT-CAS from 2003, and CCCE-GUCAS from 2006, supervised a dozen of MsC and PhD students from BUPT and Beihang University, and now supervising about one and half dozens of PhD and MsC candidates in BUPT, CCCE-GUCAS, ICT-CAS and Tsinghua University.

I have been involving in few professional activities, currently serving a Council Member of Beijing Communication Institute (a senior consultant club in communication industry and academia), and a vice chair of Sensor Network Technical Committee, China Computer Federation. I have also been serving numerous co-chairs and members of organization committees or program committees in several leading conferences like ICC, AINA, PIMRC, ICDCS, WWW, ChinaCom, etc.

Research Cooperation

In last ten years, I have made several Nokia strategic important and impact university cooperations in China.

1.Nokia-BUPT cooperation made records in China (1997 - )

  • First Nokia university cooperation in China
  • Made 6 patents, tens of patent apps, more than 200 publications, and tens or hundred recruits

2. Build the world first nation-wide IPv6 research network in CERNET (1999 – 2002)

  • Led Nokia becoming the well known IPv6 research leader in China.
  • Successfully driven several IPv6 standards into Chinese standards.

3. Build competence of Symbian/S60 in China universities (2003-)

  • Mass impacts on the communities (tens of thousands participants from 20+ top universities)
  • Produced high quality R&D for Nokia and the IT industry (e.g. Application UI SW for Business Card Reader integrated into Nokia N90 product, first ever from university)

4. Establishment of Nokia Postdoc Station (2004.5)

  • Made Nokia China recognized the global leader of open innovation
  • The most effective, flexible talent resource model made a dozen postdoctoral researchers contributing to NRC Beijing research

5. Establishment of Nokia-Tsinghua Research Framework – Joint Research Lab (2007.5)

  • New open innovation model first ever in Nokia China enables Tsinghua professors and students and Nokia researchers work together towards co-creation model of research at a joint facility
  • Become few most critical important initiatives both in local and global.

6. Establishment of Nokia-China Academy of Sciences Research Framework (2007.7) and BUPT (2007.7)

  • Increase efficiency of research cooperation management and impacts

Patents and patent pendings

I have a dozen of patents granted and tens of patent applications

Publications

I am author and co-author of more than 160 conference and journal papers, and 4 books and book chapters. I have also actively given technical presentations, talks and keynote speeches in numerous scientific and industry forums/workshops/conferences/symposiums/seminars each year. Recent publication lists on wireless sensor networks are below.

“Sharing Worldwide Sensor Network,” 2nd International Workshop on SensorWebs, Databases and Mining in Networked Sensing Systems (SWDMNSS 2008) in conjunction with The 2008 International Symposium on Applications and the Internet (SAINT 2008) , July 28 - August 1, 2008, Turku, Finland.

“EATA: Effectiveness based Aggregation Time Allocation Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks” for IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC'08), July 6 - 9, 2008, Marrakech, Morocco.

"Collaborative Query Processing among Heterogeneous Sensor Networks", The First ACM International Workshop on Heterogeneous Sensor and Actor Networks (HeterSanet 2008), (co-located with ACM MobiHoc), Hong Kong SAR, China, May 27, 2008.

“Practical Coding-Aware Opportunistic Routing Mechanism for Wireless Mesh Networks,” IEEE ICC’08, May 19-23, 2008.

“Employing Mobile Sink in Event-Driven WSNs,” VTC-2008 Spring, 11-14 May 2008, Singapore.

Research Interests

My current research interests are mobile enabled wireless sensor networks (mWSN) and its applications and services, ubiquitous reality search, grid services, ad-hoc networking and p2p networking, and etc.
