Pekka Luoma

Senior Researcher
Ubiquitous Architectures Team, Helsinki

I joined Nokia Research Center in 1997 to study digital content delivery over unidirectional radio networks and its user applications, such as mobile TV and filecast. This involved prototyping, protocol design, end-to-end system design, standardization (DAVIC, DVB, IETF, 3GPP, DLNA) and cooperation with internal and external partners.

With CELTIC EnComPAs project starting in 2004 I moved from datacast to user-centered design of applications and platforms for the digital home. In EnComPAs our multidisciplinary team used iterative development, prototyping and user testing on an application concept about social sharing of photos and videos. During NRC participation in CELTIC Feel@Home I contributed to application concepts, user testing and system design for family-to-family videoconferencing. I am currently working on architectures for mobile cloud computing in Artemis SOFIA project.

Contributions to Open Source

The initial release of the Linux DVB Demux API was written by me for Nokia Media Terminal. Together with Convergence GmbH it was released as open source and later found its way to mainstream Linux kernel.
