Klaus Hugl

Research Leader, Optimized Local Area Access
Nokia Research Center, Helsinki

Klaus Hugl received his Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.) and Dr. Techn. (PhD) degree in communications and radiofrequency engineering from Technical University Vienna in 1998 and 2002, respectively. In 2002, he joined the Radio Communications Laboratory of Nokia Research Center, Helsinki where he is currently working as a Research Leader. At Nokia, he has been involved in the early phases of the IST WINNER project as well as in research and standardization of 3.5G/3GPP HSPA and 3.9G/3GPP LTE cellular wireless systems. With respect to 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE), Klaus has been responsible for multi-antenna and Muliple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) research in Nokia and has been acting as a regular 3GPP RAN1 delegate in this respect. He lately shifted his research focus towards IMT-Advanced wireless access investigating Optimized Local Radio Access complementing current wide area cellular systems. Klaus is currently leading the related "Optimized Local Access" research team in Nokia Research Center Helsinki.
