Background

I work in the Internet Core Technology Center in Helsinki, focussing mainly on home networking and security related topics. These days, that means trying to help to solve problems related to the secure setup of wireless links for WLAN and Bluetooth and how to make users able to make optimal use of their digital homes using nokia devices. My position is Research leader of the Extended Home team.

Predicitons and thoughts

The networked home to happen!

Stuff like Nokia Sensor to become just another everyday communication technique we use.

Touch-based interaction with places and things to catch on.

Research Interests

Pervasive computing, network security, biometrics, ease of use, digital identity management.

I've done a lot of prototyping on our smartphone platform Series 60, some of it has seen the light of day inside products like
Nokia Web services Framework and Nokia Sensor.

Nowadays looking at what the networked home means for Nokia devices.

Personal Information

I'm Irish and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. Been living in Finland and at Nokia since 1995, before that working for Siemens in Germany and in Ireland. My home is extended - it's a big old house out in the country and with my wife Jaana we have 5 kids. For hobbies (yeah right) I run Sports Tracker while biking on a 70's Bianchi around the lakes of Tavasita Proper.

Publications

I've published some papers at workshops and conferences, mostly about the topic of repuation-based systems and ideas about how they relate to mobile devices.
