Tuomas Tammi

I joined Nokia Research Center in June 2004. Since then I have been doing research and leading projects related to Web technologies, XML. After receiving my M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Helsinki in 1999, I spent 5 years developing telecommunication server software at two different companies.

Interests

Lately my professional interest has shifted from building platforms and technology to creating applications and services. The dynamics between the developers, users and user communities on the Web fascinate me - and we have just begun to see what possibilities mobility brings to the world of web-based services.

Projects

• Web Technologies - We have done a lot of research with the aim of making the Internet more conveniently accessible from mobile devices, both from the user and developer perspectives. The most well-known result of this research is the Nokia S60 Browser.
• Contacts Browser Plugin [link] - As an experiment we sketched a concept where phone numbers on ordinary web pages are turned into links to interact with your device. The concept was implemented as a research prototype. Try it.

Personal Interests

After work I usually watch television ... unless weather permits sailing, skiing, hiking or some other outdoor fun :-)
