Future User Interfaces and Interaction Solutions Research program (FUIIS) is a four year, multi million Euro research initiative to investigate the possibilities in the User Interface domain. The program looks at technologies ranging from SW interfaces to Audio and Haptics experience as well as teh HW and mechanics implementation of these interfaces. FUIIS started in 2004 and is closing down by the end of 2007. The program consists of about 20 projects each ranging about 2-3 years in lenght.
Some program Highlights, include; Shoot-to Translate, an applicationw that enables westerners to read chinese, by photographing the text and using the phone to scan and translate the sighns. Hitchcock UI accelerattion toolkit, and Haptikos a prototype device that creates a touch sensation when pressing keys on a touch screen.
