Abstract

The rapid growth of internet based applications calls for design of a high speed wireless packet data communication system. The wireless operators have expressed a need for a system capable of providing higher data rate while achieving better system spectrum efficiency. In response to such a need, 3GPP2 recently completed the standardization effort of the cdma2000 1xEV-DV (1x Evolution for Data and Voice) system [1]. Unlike 1xEV-DO (1x Evolution for Data Only), which can support only data services on a single RF carrier, 1xEV-DV can support both data and voice services on the same carrier, and thus allows the wireless operators to manage the voice and data loading in their system more efficiently. This paper describes the forward and reverse link enhancements resulting in cdma2000 Revision C and presents system level performance data under both the data only and mixed voice and data scenarios.
