This team aims to create more productive communication solutions, and improve the accessibility under certain situations for the physically challenged people.
The research follows a user-centric design process from understanding the user needs, concept creation, prototype development, and concept verification.
The team has developed continuous voice input of short messages on the Symbian and embedded Linux platforms, and multilingual speech generation framework. For people who cannot talk in a meeting, they developed a clever way of combining voice and text message, to play pre-recorded sound clips or synthesize user-typed text to another caller.
The team's recent development on talking Phrasebook and speech-to-speech translation provides mobile language translation solutions for travelers to get around easier in a foreign country.
