Media Content Representation

This team researches on coded representation of media, particularly speech and audio. In other words, the development speech and audio codecs, with a main focus on mobile applications.

New codecs often enable new types of applications, and new applications define the requirements for new codecs. Therefore the teams develops not only codecs, but also new application and end-to-end solution concepts.

Standardization plays a key role in the deployment of our research results. The team participates actively in ITU SG16 and 3GPP SA4.

Research topics

  • Scalable speech and audio coding
  • Superwideband speech and audio coding (14 kHz audio bandwidth)
  • Stereo in conversational applications: coding, concepts and e2e solutions
  • Surround sound: coding and e2e solutions
