Wireless Local Connectivity

This team accomplishes the mission of value-adding creative solutions through wireless local connectivity. It accomplishes by executing high-quality research in the area of short-range and local radio technologies as well as applications and services utilizing those technologies.

The team creates new solutions and develops improvements for the existing technologies. It also demonstrates the developed concepts, and drives them into standards and products. The focus areas of the team are wireless device-to-device connectivity solutions and Internet of Things technologies and services that benefit both developers and end-users.

Some of the team's achivements are:

  • Wibree low power sensor radio technology (currently Bluetooth low energy wireless technology)
  • Power save scheme adopted to IEEE 802.11s WLAN mesh standard draft
  • EPC RFID reader integrated to a mobile phone

Research topics

  • Bluetooth low energy wireless technology
  • WLAN ad hoc device-to-device connectivity
  • WLAN subsystem optimization
  • Transport independent local connectivity
  • Internet of Things technologies, applications and services
  • WiMedia UWB
  • 60 GHz wireless technologies
