The vision of the team is to turn public places like train stations, airports or shopping malls into smart places. In a smart place, you can use your mobile device to interact with your local environment. This means finding location-specific services and information around you. Also, this enables localized social networking and localized social media creation by users.
In the future, such a smart place will integrate relevant information for your local place, which is both widely spread over the internet today or only available locally like sensors, displays and other actuators. Users will be able to contribute content and even create their own services and offers in the local environment.
The research approach of the team is to use web technology as a platform to build such pervasive services for local environment in an easy and scalable way. This will allow us to integrate both with Internet services and work towards the vision of the Internet of Things.
