Background

I joined NRC in November 2006 in Palo Alto of USA. In previous, I was a research scientist in the Center for Human Computer Interaction at Virginia Tech from 2004 to 2006. Before that I was an assistant research professor at Wright State University from 2001 to 2004. Before I came to the United States of America, I was an associate professor in China.

I received my PhD, MS, and BS in China in 1995, 1988, and 1983 respectively.

Research Interests

Currently, my research focus is in computer vision, computational photography, augmented reality, and user interfaces. Before joining Nokia, I worked in universities. My main interest fields include computer vision, video based tracking, pattern recognition, machine Learning, digital image and signal processing, human-computer interaction, visual gesture research, multimedia database, video based multimodal meeting analysis.

Research Projects

  1. Visual Computing and Ubiquitous Imaging
    Research in mobile computational photography, development of  a high-resolution and high-quality mobile panoramic imaging system, development of mobile image processing and editing applications, and product of the mobile panoramic imaging system to the OVI store.
     
  2. Mobile Augmented /Mixed Reality
    Research on a mobile augmented reality system, development of image feature database, mobile local search and pattern recognition algorithms for the system.
     
  3. Nokia Computer Vision Library (NokiaCV)
    Development of an image processing and computer vision library on mobile phones and open source for public use in Symbian and Python.
